Welcome to Summer 2026 Indoor Camps
Apex Volleyball Club is proud to announce the return of our indoor summer camps!
With a variety of different camps geared towards different ages and abilities, our developmentally appropriate programs and activities are led by club president Ken Li. Ken is a fully certified NCCP Advanced Development coach with a degree in Human Kinetics (Physical Education). He is a secondary school teacher in Vancouver and has been coaching since 1998 in the high school, club, provincial stream (Team BC ID Camps and tryouts, and BC Summer Games), and post-secondary (UBC) systems.
Our assistant coaches are all Apex alumni who have an interest in helping guide the next generation of athletes to reach their full potentials. Many of them are currently playing for a post-secondary school team or are alumni of one, allowing them to bring other points of view to our campers.
With a mixture of skill development and modified games, campers can expect to receive instruction on physical literacy, tactical knowledge, and team play. Each camper will work with the coaching staff towards achieving individual goals, preparing for the fall school season and eventual indoor club season. Campers will also receive an Apex t-shirt!

Program Descriptions
General Camps
Smashball Camp
Smashball is a program used by Volleyball Canada and Volleyball BC for our youngest athletes. Through this program, our athletes will develop essential skills, compete, and play in an age-appropriate setting. With a focus on fundamentals and gameplay, Smashball develops the physical skills and knowledge base needed to participate in full-court volleyball in the future.
Train & Play Camp
Created for beginners and novices new to the sport, athletes will develop fundamental techniques in passing, setting, hitting, digging, and serving in a fun, positive, and supportive environment, intertwined with modified game play. Intermediate players can also use this camp to get more reps and ball contacts to work towards their goals. This camp is not intended for athletes who have played competitive club volleyball, but is ideal for those wanting to play club volleyball.
Intermediate Camp
The Intermediate Camp aims to help athletes build on their experiences in the club system playing Volleyball BC’s Triple Ball system. The target athletes should have played on a club team in the 12 and/or 13U levels with the motivation to move on to 14U club volleyball, athletes going to grade 9 who played Division 2-5 club volleyball, or non-club athletes who played on their high school grade 8 team.
Advanced Camp
The Advanced Camp is geared towards athletes entering grades 8 or 9. Athletes should have prior experience performing volleyball skills on competitive Division 1 or 2 club teams as we aim to refine those skills and making our movements more efficient to perform at the next level.
Elite Camp
The Elite Camp is for higher level club and high school players who want to push themselves in a more competitive environment towards competition at the next level. Players will work on both general and position-specific skills, incorporating them into game-play situations at a higher tempo and intensity.
High School Season Prep Camp
With the high school season just weeks away, this camp will act as a refresher to give athletes a head start on the high school season. The fundamental skills will all be covered to prepare for high school season tryouts, with opportunities to transfer those skills into game play.
Position/Skill-Specific Camps
Small Group Setters Only Camp
As the primary distributors for attackers, setters are undoubtedly the most essential positional players in the game. We will equip athletes with concepts to fill their toolbox of setting skills. Starting with questions like “how do I set?” and progressing to “where or who do I set?” and “when do I set this?”, we expect to see setter IQs improve alongside their physical skills in a small group setting with a smaller coach-to-athlete (1:4) ratio compared to our other camps. This program is open to all high school-aged athletes who are setters or who want to be setters (but should have the ability to set a high ball).
Outside Hitters Camp
The Outside Hitters Camp will cover specifics on the OH position: dynamic attacking from the wings and back row, pin blocking, serving, efficient passing, and defense. This program is open to all school-aged athletes who are outside hitters or who want to be outside hitters (especially those who love passing and hitting!)
Libero and Passers/Diggers Camps
The service reception is so vital to a team’s offense. This camp will focus on making efficient passers, using cues to make quicker decisions, prep and split steps to aid in efficient movements, and creating platform angles or hand passing with elbow drives to guide the ball to the target. Many of these principals will be used when teaching defense and digging as well, in addition to diving, sprawling, scooping, rolling, and emergency defensive techniques.
